Explore the glamorous world of fans at the Fan Museum for things to do in London

The Fan Museum provides a unique opportunity for people looking for things to do in London.

Visitors can see the Alexandre Exhibition, celebrating the work of the fan-maker to the courts of Europe.

Alexandre was active during a time when the art of fan making was at its height, and he was one of the major forces in 19th century French fan design and production.

His fans feature carousels of figures, putti, flowers made from luxurious carve ivory, engraved mother of pearl and glittering gilding.

The high society women of the day coveted fans by Alexandre, and the items are on display with an elegant ball-gown which is believed to have once belonged to Elizabeth of Wied, Queen Consort of Romania.

Fan enthusiasts will also enjoy exploring the rest of the museum, which has more than 3,500 fans, with examples from all over the world dating back as far as the 11th century.
